MTV Asia Awards
An Unforgettable Night Of Stars!

The first ever MTV Asia Music Awards 2002 brought together the biggest gathering of Asian and International stars ever seen in Singapore. The 7,000 strong crowd of mostly teenage fans packed the Singapore Indoor Stadium ready to have a stomping good time and they did!

Hosted by Ronan Keating and Mandy Moore, the show got off to an electrifying start with the lasses from U.K., Bond. Their combined performance with Danish percussionists Safri Duo set the tone for the rest of the evening, as one of the highlights of the MTV Asia Awards was the bringing together of Asian and International talents and music. Later, M2M shared the stage with Indonesian group Padi for an interesting East meets West fusion.

The biggest star of the evening was no doubt the bootilicious Pink, who arrived in style on a Harley and got the party started with her hit, "Get The Party Started ". True to her image, she had the loudest, sexiest outfits of the night and shared a good chemistry with MTV India VJ Cyrus B when they presented the award for Favourite Rock Act. Their banter about Bon Jovi being Indian had the crowd in stitches.

Other highlights of the night included sexy Latino Enrique Iglesias, who wooed the girls with "Hero" and the performance by Japanese superstar Ayumi Hamasaki, who picked up an award for Most Influential Japanese Artist In Asia. It was a rare treat for her fans, as the singer seldom ventures outside Japan.

The euphoria and excitement of the crowd was kept high with songs by Blue, Korean boyband g.o.d, P.O.D. and Stephanie Sun.

But the organizers saved the best for last. Westlife, who had earlier won the Favourite Pop Act category, sprang onto stage and the crowd roared! The Irish quartet's rendition of "World Of Our Own" brought the curtains down on the inaugural MAA and sent the fans home with a smile on their faces.
